The Great Reader (“we,” “our,” or “us”) operates the website thegreatreader.com and The Great Reader Chrome extension. This policy describes what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that data.

Data We Collect

  • Account information: Your email address and authentication credentials when you create an account (via email/password or Google Sign-In).
  • Kindle email address: The Send-to-Kindle email you provide so we can deliver articles to your device.
  • Article content: When you click “Send to Kindle” or “Add to Weekly Journal,” we temporarily process the article’s title, author, and text content to generate an EPUB file. Article content is not stored after delivery.
  • Usage data: We track the number of sends per week to enforce free tier limits.

How We Use Your Data

  • To deliver Substack articles to your Kindle device via email.
  • To compile and send your weekly journal.
  • To manage your account and subscription.
  • To enforce usage limits on the free tier.

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.

Third-Party Services

We use the following services to operate:

  • Firebase (Google) — Authentication and database.
  • Resend — Email delivery to your Kindle.
  • Stripe — Payment processing for Pro subscriptions.
  • Vercel — Website hosting.

Each service processes data according to their own privacy policies.

Chrome Extension

The Great Reader Chrome extension:

  • Reads article content only from the active tab when you explicitly click “Send to Kindle” or “Add to Weekly Journal.”
  • Stores your authentication token locally in Chrome storage to keep you signed in.
  • Does not track your browsing activity or collect data from pages you visit.
  • Does not execute any remote code.

Data Retention

Account data is retained as long as your account is active. Weekly journal articles are stored until delivered, then archived. You can request deletion of your account and all associated data by contacting us.

Your Rights

You may at any time:

  • Access the data we hold about you.
  • Request correction or deletion of your data.
  • Delete your account.
